We were excited to be part of the rally on May 13th. It was also my daughters birthday. Although we were not able to meet our representatives, we left our apples for them. My daughter also wrote her birthday wish to keep our schools open. The most memorable event of the rally was the parade and the chant to save our schools. It was amazing to see the turnout of all who support our schools. My son is glad not to deal with the bullies and teachers who who literally told him that he was "a waste of time". Now, they enjoy school and have regained a high self esteem and seen that they are indeed headed for success!

We were happy our Senator (Wilson) was willing to speak with my daugnter and me. Rep. Dominick did not even show us enough regard to have a staff member in the office. I left a package of material with the reception desk in the House office building. I provided Senator Wilson witha package that included my Senate testimony and a copy of OHVA's annual report. We also called his attention to the number of traditional schools that have been operating in academic emergency status for years. My daughter told him her story. This included being threatened with being beat up. She told him she either had a headache or stomach ache every morning. Not only does she now look forward to starting school, but her reading level has gone from 4th grade to 6th grade in just 4 months.

I just wanted to share how over whelming it felt to be part of such a huge parade and cause for my daughter's school. While the two of us were walking we just stopped to take it all in and could not believe all the families that we saw in front of us and from behind all you could see was the beautiful children standing up for their rights. As my daughter said it was like the red sea parting as Moses led the people to the promise land and she knew that God was with us all and would here are pleas. Our guest speakers gave me hope in this vast wave of discouragement with our Governor who right now is not thinking of the children but only the teachers union. May God's grace and peace fill each family, and everyone that our here to help our children to fight this battle.

It meant a lot to me to be a part of saving my school. I am finishing up tenth grade, and I plan on graduating from Ohio Virtual Academy. I really enjoyed being able to meet some of my teachers and classmates at the rally. Although I couldn't meet either my representative or my senator, I did leave the apples I made for them. I wrote a poem that I included on the apples, and wrote a note for each of them. My most recent post on my blog shows pictures and my thoughts of the blog. http://melissagm.blogspot.com
